BRACHIOPLASTY
A brachioplasty is the term used for improving the loose and hanging skin over the posterior aspect of the arm. The operation leaves the patient with a scar from the armpit to the elbow. The scar has a bad reputation for being a bad scar but generally, the scar is not too bad but just takes quite a long time to settle. After a year or two, the scar is usually a fine white line which is not unsightly. The procedure is an excellent procedure with few complications. There are short scar brachioplasty techniques. These techniques can only improve sagging of the skin in the upper part of the arm and most patients do not fall into this category. The results are usually better with a formal brachioplasty, it is just that one has to accept the longer scar. The operation is done under a general anaesthetic and can be done at the same time as a lower bodylift.
