Doctor David Caminer obtained his medical degree in Johannesburg at WITS. He immigrated to Australia in 1984. He graduated as a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in Sydney in 1993.

Dr Caminer has been in private practice for sixteen years, since completing a fellowship in the USA and another fellowship in France. From 1995 to 2006 Dr Caminer was a VMO of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at St Vincent's Hospital. He is now an HMO at St Vincent's Hospital. Dr Caminer is frequently called upon by Sydney's leading specialists to perform major plastic reconstructive procedures in combined operations with several other Sydney surgeons at St Vincent's Private Hospital.

From 1999 until 2006 Dr Caminer was the Chairman and CSU head of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructitive surgery at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney. He was secretary of NSW Chapter of Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery from 2001 -2003. Dr Caminer was also the Secretary of ASAPS from 2008-2010. He was responsible for organising the ASAPS conference in 2009, and the non-surgical symposium to be held in Sydney in November 2011.
