Eyelid Surgery – Post Procedure Facts & Advice

Post-operative care for Eye Lid Surgery

Upper and lower blepharoplasties will result in bruising and swelling around the eyes. There will be small brown tape applied to the upper lid suture line or to hold the sutures in place on the lower eyelids. Patients should be nursed with their head up or on a few pillows.

Regularly cool packs to the eyes are beneficial to decrease swelling and bruising for approximately 48 hours post-operatively. Patients can shower 24 hours post-op or the next day. The sutures will be removed 5-7 days post-operatively. Oral antibiotics are prescribed for five days as well as pain relief which usually should not last longer than 3-4 days. Minor residual swelling will improve over the ensuing weeks.
