Nose Surgery – Post Procedure Facts & Advice

POST OP

If going home or spending a night in hospital you need to sleep with your head up at about a 45 degree angle. This is best done for the first few days.  In this way swelling is minimised. If having the nasal bones fractured you will have bruised and swollen eyes.  The swelling will be maximal at 48 hours and then subside as quickly as it appeared.

Brusing can last up to 10 days.

You will be prescribed oral antibiotics and analgesia if going home, intravenous antibiotics if spending the night in hospital. Cool packs will be applied to your eyes to reduced swelling and bruising.  This can be continued for 48 hours but thereafter I do not believe there is any further advantage of continuing the cool packs.

There might be some ? of bleeding from the nose for 48 hours.  A bolster can be worn to save wiping the nose regularly. I will see you in my office 5 to 7 days postoperatively to remove your different nasal splints and to remove your sutures.
