Most clients say Tatt2Away tattoo removal less painful than getting the original tattoo. Some describe it as a ‘little annoying’ and some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. You can request topical anaesthetic applied prior to the treatment.
The discomfort is really only during the actual treatment process. There is very little pain following. Be aware it usually looks worse than it feels! The treated area will be a little red and swollen in the dot pattern template – similar to bubble wrap. Don’t worry, this passes soon enough! Read more about how it works here.
Between days 1-4 it will feel a bit like sunburn and you’ll notice it only if you bump it.
Around days 5-6 it will be tender and scabs will begin to form. Expect redness and inflammation over the treated area. This is normal, and indicates that the treatment is working.
Around days 7-8 the area becomes tight as the epidermis heals and dots become scabs.
Around days 9-11 the treatment area will have cooled down and feel dry and tight. You’ll start to feel itchy and want to scratch. DON’T! The scabs need to be allowed fall away by themselves, and this can happen anywhere from Day 3 through to Day 12 or so, and varies from person to person.
All the scabs should have fallen off by around Day 14 or 15. Remember – the scabs are doing the work to lift the ink from your skin – let them do their job, no picking!
The skin under the scabs should be pink and pigment-free. At this stage is it a vital part of the treatment that a silicone patch is applied to the area. This patch promotes healing and reduces the possibility of scarring.
Using silicone based aftercare products is critical to the final healed result of your removal.
STRATDERM high grade silicone gel is highly recommended. FOLLOW THE AFTERCARE PROTOCOL exactly.
Your technician will provide and indication of how many treatments are required during your free 30 minute consultation. Generally, the average size tattoo (12.5cm x 12.5cm – a bit larger than beer-coaster size) requires between 4-5 treatments. This depends on a variety of factors including skin type, the age of the tattoo, density of the tattoo, amount of pigment, the location of the tattoo, and history of other attempts to remove the tattoo (ie Laser)
It is vitally important for the skin to heal completely before commencing the next treatment. A minimum of 8 weeks is recommended. Starting the next treatment too soon will increase the risk of scarring.
Tatt2Away tattoo removal treatment removes all colours (it’s colour blind). Tatt2Away non-laser tattoo removal requires less treatments than laser. It is less painful and actually extracts ink from the skin permanently.
It’s more cost effective than laser. And it won’t damage your natural skin pigment.
No. The inflammatory response is part of the normal healing process it the body protecting itself from infection. The macrophages have all gone to the ‘injury’. If there is an infection pus will form as they wrap around it to protect and expel. Follow your home care instructions religiously.
Removals can be a patient process but it’s generally less painful than getting the original tattoo. In fact, while it might look a bit macabre, this is part of the process. The ink is systematically being expelled from the body and this is great news! This process is so much faster (with less treatments) than laser.
Tattoo removals depend on a number of variables including the tattoo’s location on the body, the age of the tattoo, size and ink saturation.
The average-size tattoo (a bit larger than beer-coaster size) will take between 3-5 treatments to remove. The average cost per tattoo removal treatment is around $330-$500, depending on the size and density of the tattoo. The more solid colour in a tattoo, the more treatments it will take. Each session is about 45-60 minutes.
Very small tattoos, or where large areas of the tattoos are less then 5mm in width, MAY be removed within 2 treatments, at the minimum charge of $330 per treatment. These sessions would be about 30-45 minutes in length. Prices are estimates only. For accurate pricing please arrange a free consult with your nearest Tatt2Away® clinic in Australia or New Zealand.
There is a minimum 8 weeks between treatments. Some clients have an improved result waiting 12 weeks or more between treatments. It’s not about the speed of removal, but rather about the quality the removal process. Rushing into follow-up treatments too early can jeopardise your skin recovery, so it’s best to wait until the treated area has fully healed.
No. A number of factors are taken into consideration before commencing a Tatt2Away® treatment. These include size, age and location of the tattoo. Your skin type, and compliance to after care instructions is also vital.
